About

A calmer, clearer way through youth sports

The evidence-based guide for parents of youth athletes — volleyball, soccer & football. Training programs, equipment guides, college recruiting, and safety.

Varsity Draft is a publication for parents of young athletes — written for the parent in the middle of the decision, not for the brands selling to them. Youth sports can feel like a hundred decisions arriving at once. Our job is to make it feel like one clear thing at a time: what to do first, what truly matters, and how to keep your child safe and loving the game.

We are editorially independent and reader-first. Our guides come from the people who have lived it — coaches, sports medicine professionals, and fellow parents — and we are honest about cost, trade-offs, and risks. No pressure, no filler — just warm, evidence-based guidance you can actually use.

What we cover

How we work

Evidence first

Varsity Draft is built on peer-reviewed research, interviews with certified coaches and sports medicine professionals, and data from organizations like the NCAA, NFHS, and American Academy of Pediatrics. We cite our sources so you can check our work.

Parent-tested

Our recommendations come from parents who have lived it — the carpool lines, the tryout weekends, the equipment purchases. We test advice against real experience and tell you honestly what is worth it and what is not.

Age-appropriate

Every guide and recommendation is specific to an age group and skill level. What works for a 7-year-old in recreational soccer is different from what a 16-year-old club player needs. We never give one-size-fits-all advice.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Spot an error? Email editor@varsitydraft.com and we'll review it promptly.
